Longtime Chicagoan Neil Jendon mines some distinctive drone territory on “Male Fantasies,” released on Locrian’s excellent Land of Decay label. With little in the way of overt melody, Jendon manages to craft two sides of roiling, richly textured drones that are distinctively dark, foreboding, and compelling, matching the potentially disturbing elements evoked by his titles. Some of this is reminiscent of Locrian themselves, overlapping with their ability to produce celestial, isolated textures. But Jendon’s work, as ever, stands on its own here with a distinctive mix of darkness and sensitivity.
